Nostalghia is Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky's enigmatic work about a writer (Oleg Yankovsky) who, trapped by his fame and an unhappy marriage, seeks out his cultural past in Italy. Here he Andrej Arsen'evič Tarkovskij (in russo: Андрей Арсеньевич Тарковский?; Zavraž'e, 4 aprile 1932 – Parigi, 29 dicembre 1986) è stato un regista, sceneggiatore, montatore, scrittore e critico cinematografico sovietico. Il suo cinema è caratterizzato da lunghe sequenze, da strutture narrative atipiche e non convenzionali, da un distinto uso della fotografia Andrej, un musicologo sovietico, è a Bologna per ricerche. Lo accompagna nelle sue ricerche Eugenia, una donna avvenente e inquieta. Un giorno incontra un uomo dimesso dal manicomio. Tra Andrej e l'eccentrico personaggio si crea un rapporto di solidarietà che allontana lo studioso dalle sue ricerche e lo porta a escludere sempre più l'accompagnatrice.
